Can You Fly Your DJI Mini 2 in the Rain?

As a drone enthusiast, I've always been curious to know whether my equipment can withstand harsh weather conditions. Recently, I found myself caught in a sudden drizzle while flying my DJI Mini 2, and I was eager to test its limits.

To prepare for the unexpected rain shower, I took some precautions. First, I sprayed an electric circuit spray on top of the drone to ensure it would remain water-resistant. I also put my battery in rice overnight as a precautionary measure, just in case. Although I had some concerns about the water seeping into the top battery button, I was relieved to find that after 10 subsequent charges, there were no issues.

One worry I did have was that the raindrops on the front lens of the camera might affect the video quality. However, when reviewing my footage, I was pleasantly surprised to see not a single drop or distortion. The image remained crystal clear throughout the flight.

During my testing period, I flew big circles around me, keeping the drone within VLOS (visible line of sight) in case any issues arose. Fortunately, nothing did, and I was able to continue flying without incident.

My phone screen became completely wet, but since it's splash-proof, I wasn't concerned. The DJI Mini 2 performed flawlessly throughout the rain shower, which lasted for about five minutes - a mix of soft and heavy drizzle.

While I wouldn't recommend flying in the rain regularly, my experience has given me confidence that if I'm caught suddenly in a light to moderate rain shower, I can fly my drone home at full speed without any issues. The DJI Mini 2 proved to be more than capable of handling the unexpected downpour, and I'll feel more prepared for future flights in uncertain weather conditions.

Overall, while it's still important to exercise caution when flying in the rain, my experience with the DJI Mini 2 has demonstrated its ability to withstand moderate rain showers.
